我一直认为,按照壁画项目书上的说法有两点可以肯定:
1/都按照农民的要求,木文章(本地画匠)可以完全满足。
2/农民可以得到实惠,但免费的东西不一定是好东西。
I agree with two points in the Plan.
1.If the work must be done totally as requested by the peasants, then Mu Wenzhang (local carpenter) can accomplish it.
2.The peasants can get benefits, but free things may not be good.

1、农民的审美价值标准是什么?根据什么来制定标准?
2、主办方丽江工作室做这次壁画项目的目的是什么?
3、汉化以及全球化的影响。

Languages:
1.Naxi language belongs to the branch Tibetan-Burmese of the Sino-Tibetan language with the order of Subject+Predicate+object. There are five dialects in Naxi language which are not understandable among each other.

地域历史文化环境:
东巴教是纳西族处于氏族和部落联盟时期从原始信仰的基础上发展起来的原始宗教,在相当长的时间里作为全民信仰的民族宗教,规范当时人们的社会生活和伦理道德,由于历史原因,纳西先民自元朝(元宪宗三年1253年)迎忽必烈渡金沙江建立土司制度开始,汉文化中,佛教和道教的宗教成份逐渐融入了纳西族原始东巴教,东巴教原始核心未变。直至清初(雍正年间1723年)改土归流后,官方提倡学习诗书礼乐,兴办书院和义学,改变了汉学被上层贵族垄断享有的局面,普遍汉化到平民阶层,如今相当一部分真正在日常生活中指导纳西人言行和行为方式的,则为儒家的礼义和佛教的善恶因果观,东巴教对纳西人的影响逐渐淡化。如今的纳西人在社会价值趋向上与汉人是一致的。
Local History and Culture
Dongba religion has developed on the basis of original belief of the Naxi people during the clan society and was hold as the ethnic religion of the whole Naxi people during a long time to regulate the social life and ethics of that moment. Due to historical reasons, from the Dynasty Yuan (year 1253) when the Naxi ancients welcomed Kublai Khan to establish Tusi System, some Buddhist and Daoist elements had been integrating with the original Dongba religion, but the core of the Dongba religion didn’t change. Until the beginning of Dynasty Qing (from year 1723), the government abolished the Tusi system advocated Chinese studies not only in the noblesse but also in the ordinary people, the effect of Dongba religion in the Naxi people had been decreasing. Nowadays the social value system of the Naxi people is the same as the Han’s.

拉市海是离云南丽江古城不远的一个小型高原湖泊,整个拉市乡就围绕着这块湖泊,由于拉市海下沉坡度较缓,四周群山环绕,就形成一块高原湿地,大批的候鸟在每年的十二月到清明前夕在此过冬。这里背山面水,夏季雨量充沛,冬季阳光充足,自然条件优越。全年最高气温在摄氏28度左右,最低气温在摄氏0度左右,早晚温差较大。
Lashi Hai is a plateau lake near Lijiang ancient city. The whole Lashi village rounds the lake. Every year from December to April of the next year, there are many migratory birds come here to pass the winter. In summer this region is blessed with plentiful rain and in winter it’s sunny. The highest temperature is 28℃ of the whole year and the lowest is 0℃.

建筑格局多为三坊一照壁,冬暖夏凉,坚固且有韧劲的土石木结构,非常适合在高原的地震多发区使用,早年间使用的木栅栏式建筑现多用于堆放杂物或饲养牲畜等。
The houses here now are of soil-stone-wood structure which is very strong and stable, and this kind of structure is resistant to the earthquake. The old houses of pailings are used to pile up things or raise livestock.

现在的纳西妇女还穿戴着传统的服装。除去多民族文化在服装形式上的影响,这套服装在功能性上,特别适合当地高原气候环境的农业生产生活。
Now the Naxi women still wear traditional clothes which is very suitable for working in the highland climate..

拉市海周围农户用水十分方便,由于地处高原湿地,在农户家地面向下挖一米就能出水。
这里的生活成本比较低,除了一些工业化生活必需品是从城里的大型超市买回来的,其他的农副产品大多自给自足。每年杀了年猪后,鲜肉用盐腌制,一头猪可以供一家五口吃一年,火腿味道绝美。过剩的农副产品可以到丽江古城边的忠义市场里交易。我特别喜欢忠义市场,那边有我和Lisa曾经追寻过的鸡腿,鸡骨头总是打包好带回村里喂胡嘉岷深爱的Dudu。没有忠义市场,感觉在拉市农村是没办法生活的,虽然经常去农民家里吃婚丧嫁娶时才有的八大盘四大碗,但吃久了,发现菜式一模一样。八大盘四大碗里有一碗纯肥肉,看起来让人觉得腻味,后来总结一下,发现其他菜里油水很少,几乎所有的油水全在这盘纯肥肉里了。
拉市海的渔业资源稀少,可能跟地形、土壤和水质有关。几次路过丽江机场,发现机场附近的荒野小店都是四川人开的特色大蒜鲶鱼店,价钱比较贵,我一直不能理解几乎没人下车的地方,为什么会有这么多做鱼的店,呆了几个月,准备离开的时候,才发现了鲶鱼小店的好处。
It’s easy for the farmers in Lashi Hai to get water, because it is located in the high wet land, they can get water only with digging one meter down. The living cost here is low, they buy some daily necessities in the supermarkets in the city and they are self-sufficient with most of the farm products. After killing the yearly pig, people pickle it with salt and one pig can serve a family of 5 persons to eat for one year. If the farmers have extra agricultural products, they sell them in the Zhong Yi Market in Lijiang city. I love this Zhong Yi Market very much because there are the delicious chicken legs, Lisa and I always take the chicken bones to Lashi Hai for feeding Dudu which is the favourite dog of Hu Jiamin. Without this market, I feel that it impossible to live in the village of Lashi. When there are weddings or funerals in the village, we are always invited to eat the so-called eight plates and four bowls (these are the normative dishes in the local place). These dishes are always the same, and there is one dish with only fat meat which seems very greasy, because in other dishes there are few fat.
The fishery resourse here is not rich, probably because of the local soil and the water quality. I have passed by the Lijiang Airport several times, and saw that there were many Sichuan restaurants selling catfish with garlic with high prices. I couldn’t understand why there are so many restaurants in that area with so small number of guests. But after living few months there and when I was going to leave there, I found the good part of these restaurants.

村里的小商店里卖的大多是山寨食品,但是孩子们喜欢,价钱便宜,味道也不错,还送玩具。
农村孩子有特别多可以玩的事情,可以游山玩水打候鸟。抓来的鸟可以卖给善良人用来放飞。
我很注意禽流感的报告,在这么多候鸟的地方,却没有一例疑似报告,可能跟这边的日照有关系,强烈的紫外线射杀能力超强,在阴天没有太阳的情况下,我的情绪会变的极差,不是因为阳光的消毒能力,而是因为没有了阳光,那里的色彩无法让人眩目。
这个村农民的收入主要是靠农林畜牧业和旅游业,和中国大多数地方一样,在农闲时,村里的年轻劳力大多在外务工。
In small stores of the village, most products are low-cost and poor-quality foods, but children here like them because they are cheap, taste good and sold with toys. In villages children have so many funny things to play like shotting birds and sell them to kind-hearted people for setting them free.
When I was there I payed so much attention to the “bird flue”, but in a place with so many migratory birds there was no suspected case, maybe it was the result of the strong sunlight there, cause the ultraviolet radiation can kill bacteria. I was always in low mood when the weather was cloudy with no sunshine, not because of the sterilizability of the sunshine, but because of that without sunshine the colors there were no longer blinding.
The major income sources of the local farmers come from the agriculture, stock raising or tourism, like most places in China, in slack farming season, most of the young people are working ourside of the village.

好多家农户都买了小型面包车,除了自己办事和进城方便之外还可以用来营运,进城五元钱一个人,一车可坐六人,Lisa和胡嘉岷算过,只要拉上两个人,用车成本就回来了。白天路上有车,只是有时等的时间比较长,有时同时好几辆,终点站在城里的忠义市场。
纳西人很长寿,他们特别喜欢松树,松树的纳西语发音叫TEN ZA。松木是纳西人建筑的最好材料。每年冬天,纳西农户都要开着拖拉机上山拉松毛(松针),松毛是最好的引火做饭的燃烧物。松树除了实用之外,形式感和文化寓意都特别强,拉市附近的山上种满了松树,坟地也都在山上。
拉市农村实行少数民族计划生育政策,可以生育二胎,孩子们都有兄弟姐妹。
Most families here have bought minivan, not only for going to the city more conveniently, but also for doing business. The cost of taking one person is 5 yuan, and in one minivan it can load six persons. Lisa and Hu Jiamin have counted for them that they can recover the cost of the minivan with only two people. You can always take minivan in day time, and the destination is Zhongyi Market.
The Naxi people are long-life people. The like pines tree very much. In Naxi language pine tree is called TEN ZA. The wood of pine trees are very good architectural materials for Naxi people. In every winter, farmers drive tractors to the mountain in order to get pine needles which are very good pilot material for firing. Besides the utility values of the pine trees, they also have strong formal and cultural meanings. All mountains near Lashi have been densely planted with pine trees including the graveyard in mountains.
In Lashi government implements childbirth policy for ethnic minorities which means that people here can have two children. Children here all have sister or brothers.

和四梅家几乎是这个村子最穷的人家,和四梅是这家的大女儿,十五岁,小学刚毕业就辍学在家务农,她还有一个妹妹和四秋,十二岁,正在上学。和四梅五岁的时候母亲去世,她们跟着父亲和红专生活,去年她们的奶奶去世,和四秋就到相隔一百米外的爷爷家生活。父亲在外打工,家务农务由和四梅来操持。父亲和红专年轻的时候不务正业,胳膊上纹条龙后经常和他人纠集起来寻衅滋事,年纪大了这方面要好了些,但只要喝了酒,就不成人形,经常出手打骂和四梅以及和其他村民发生矛盾。和四梅家养了一头母猪和三头肉猪,一头黄牛,三只狗,若干只土鸡。在纳西农村的12月到1月之间,快过年的这两个月里,家家户户都要杀猪请客吃杀猪饭,和四梅家今年没办法杀猪,因为那三头肉猪长的大大小小,最大的那头看上去还没有发育结束。这边喂猪很少用饲料,几乎全靠种的玉米来喂,玉米喂猪,玉米秆喂牛。她家的玉米全由和四梅一人来收割背回,大概有4亩左右的玉米地,这是个重体力劳动。所以基本上玉米不能全部收回来就会在地里烂掉。每天下午大概5点左右,她家的猪就会嗷叫:“和 四梅(音)”。
They are the poorest family of the whole village. He Simei is the older sister with fifteen years old.She quit school after graduating from the primary school and went back home to farm. She has a younger sister He Siqiu with twelve years old. She is studing now. He Simei’s mother passed away when she was five years old. Then the two girls have been living with their father He Hongzhuan. Their grandmother died last year, so He Siqiu now is living with the grandfather whose house is one hundred meters away. The father is working outside, so He Simei takes in charge of the whole farming work. When the father was young he was a trifler with dragon tattoo in his arm. But he is better than before with growing older. However, after getting drunk, he often beats or scolds He Simei or quarrel with other neighbors. He Simei has raised one sow, three pork pigs, one cow, three dogs and some chickens. In Naxi villages, from December to January, every family here is used to killing pigs and inviting people to banquets. But He Simei can not kill pig this year, because those three pork pigs haven’t grown well. People here don’t feed pigs with artificial feed but with corns, and the corn straws are fed to cows. He Simei’s family has a farmland of 4 mus (1 mu =666.7 m2) cultivated with corns, and she is in charge of reaping the whole land and taking them back to home, which is really a heavy physical labour. So many corns can not be reaped and are finally rotten. Everyday at five o’clock, her pigs begin to shout out:”HE SIMEI~~~”.

和四梅从邻居家做客回来,开始喂猪喂牛,喂的量总是不够,牛也皮包骨。和四梅几乎不主动打扫家里卫生,满院子的破鞋烂衣服塑料纸,每次问她,她都说这些那些是她死去母亲的。她父亲的床比她的床要干净点,基本上和四梅睡在黑乎乎的被子里面,床下面睡着小狗和更小的狗。屋子里面有两个箱子,一个人造革做的,还有一个木头做的。人造革那个箱子里放着她和她爸的衣服以及一些证件,木头的那个箱子里放着她母亲的纳西族整套服装。木箱子里面相对比较整洁。她家的厕所没有门,在院子的中间立着。也没有井,用水都到对面二叔家打,衣服很少洗,洗也洗不干净。
After coming back home from the neighbours’, He Simei begins to feeding pigs and cows, but she doesn’t feed them enough, so the cow is also very skinny like pigs. He Simei hardly does cleaning work in home, and the whole yard is full of broken shoes, old clothes or plastic bags etc. Everytime I asked her about these garbage, she always said that these are of her dead mother. The bed of her father is a little bit cleaner than hers. The quilt of He Simei is almost black because of the dirt. Her dogs sleep under the bed. Inside the house there are two suitcases, one of leatheroid with clothes of hers and her father and some document papers, and the other one of is made of wood with the Naxi clothes of her mothers. This one is cleaner and more orderly. The toilet is in the center of the yard without a door. They don’t have well neither. They take water from the uncle’s home which is in the opposite side. They seldom wash the clothes, and she can not clean them well.

到了农村生活,就知道身上有些污渍是非常正常的,鞋面上有灰那也是常态。她从来没去过理发店,基本是自己觉得太长了才会按自己觉得美的想法拿剪刀剪一下。和四梅是一个非常有活力的女孩,每次村里有庆祝活动,她都是最好的打跳(围着篝火跳舞)能手,除了打跳,最喜欢去别家做客。和四梅家的灶台是我见过最脏的,因为懒得去打水,刷锅笤帚散在锅台上,基本不太刷锅,一顿接一顿地吃,灶台的颜色是全黑的。妹妹有时跟她一起吃饭,她吃饭的时候总是站在炉灶旁,透过土坯的围墙,看着远处的玉龙雪山,边吃边看。
When you live in the village, you will know that it is natural and normal that you have ashes or dirts in clothes or shoes. He Simei have never been in any barbershop. She just cut her hair in her own way when she feels it so long. He Simei is a very active girl. She is a good dancer (dance around the fire) when there are some celebrating activities. She likes dancing and she also likes visiting others’ home. The hearth of her home is the dirties one that I’ve even seen, because she is too lazy to take water to clean the hearth. The hearth is of black color also. Her sister sometimes eats with her. When He Simei eats, she likes standing beside the hearth and looking far into the Yu Long Mountain

给和四梅家的脱贫方案:五年计划
用我给她的钱将她家外墙壁画刷白用来保持和其他村民意识形态上的同调一致性------打一口井解决用水问题------用水把家里外打扫修整干净自己打扮漂亮------吸引入赘一个壮小伙解决劳力不足和生育问题-------生育两个孩子增加分配两亩土地------六亩土地一半种玉米一半贷款种果树(玉米添加饲料喂牲畜)-------和四梅在家养育孩子壮小伙农闲时出门打工和父操持家务农活------给和父续弦解决其父情感需求且能再增加一亩地用来种植果树------果树三年后四亩两万斤年收六万元买小面包车兼作营运------建新房------五年过上好日子。
A five-year plan for He Simei’s family to lift them out of poverty:
-I give her money to paint white the whole wall in order to be accordant with others’
-Dig a well to solve the water use problem
-Clean the house, clean herself and be dressed up
-Marry with a strong man to solve the problem of the lack of manpower
-Give birth to two children to get more farmland (2 mu more)
-Cultivate corns in half of the land the cultivate fruits in another half part with loan
-He Simei take care of the two children. He husband works outside in slack season. Her father takes charge of the farming work.
-Let her father marry with another woman to satisfy his personal need and get more land (1 mu). They can also cultivate fruits in this 1 mu land.
-Buy a minivan with the money got from the fruits during three years, more or less 60,000 yuan.
-Build a new house
-Have a new and better life in five years.

在此五年期间和四梅家可能遇到的困难如下:
在此期间和四梅家的任何人不能生大病出意外。
1、她已经将我给她家粉白壁画的钱花掉了。
2、打井的经费从哪里来?以及修葺自家和用来打扮的花费,还有新婚的费用。
3、入赘的小伙不壮万一不能生育,以及小伙的品行和不够勤劳。
4、和四梅是否能正常生育两胎。
5、农村政策是否会有变化。
6、谁是果树贷款担保人?
7、气候变化,希望风调雨顺。
8、全国的经济情况良好。
9、和父的品行还和以往一样吗?以及继母是否热爱生活。
Possible difficulties during the five-year plan:

A《和四梅家的狗》
A. the dogs of He Simei’s home

和四梅家的狗是全村最饿的狗,又瘦又凶,见到我就吠。
我准备了一只弹弓和两根火腿肠,几乎村里所有的狗都怕弹弓。我在包包就不在,后来我知道这根弹弓没有关系。我用了火腿肠招呼了另外两只:花花和雄霸。
这两只没跑的瘦狗最喜欢做的就是完全放松的乱躺晒太阳,这个行为跟三年自然灾害时期我国的科学家发现的太阳能蛋白质理论很接近,意思是多晒太阳可以补充蛋白质。黑色的公狗雄霸基本是跟着我的,我到哪里,它躺到哪里,我发现:给它一根火腿肠它可以跟我一整天。雄霸连火腿肠的塑料包皮也不放过,吃掉的速度极快。
农村的狗是不怕饿死的,有太多可以充饥的东西,但是缺味道,我经常看见另外那只白色的母狗花花去厕所转,人一离开,它就去转转。
花花在十二月六号这天生了一窝四只小狗,一只隔了一晚上就死了,没过十天只剩下了两只,和四梅说有一只失踪了,一个月后,我用火腿肠喂那两只小狗,有一只能吃了,另一只只能舔,不能吃火腿肠的小狗没过几天死了,最后就剩下了一只,还没起名字。
He Simei’s dogs are the hungriest dogs in the village. They are skinny and fierce. Everytime they see me they bark.
I have prepared one sling and two hams. Almost every dog here is afraid of the sling. I have fed Huahua and Xiongba with the hams because Baobao was not there.
These two skinny dogs like lying down in the sun. This makes me remind of the theory found by our scientists in the “Three Years’ Famine” in the early sixties. The theory says that with the sunshine one can get more protein. After feeding one ham, the black dog Xiongba follows me the whole day. He even eats the plastic bag of the ham.
The dogs in villages never die of hunger because there are so many things to eat although they don’t taste good. I often saw the white dog go to the toilet.
Huahua gave birth to four puppies at the sixth of December. One puppy died the next day. Another puppy disappeared then as He Simei said. Ten days later there were only two puppies left. One month later, I fed the two puppies with ham, one could eat, but another couldn’t. Then this one died too. The last puppy has no name until now.

B《和四梅的房门》
B. The door of He Simei’s house

和四梅房间的木门没有榫头扣件并且很重,别人家的门是用推的,她房间的门是用搬的,开关门全靠搬来搬去,每天得有好几次花很大的力气把门呛到门框上。她没有意识到这有什么不方便,也没觉得有什么不安全的,虽然有时当狗叫起来的时候也会感到害怕,床下的狗会预警,在深夜,只要村里的一只狗吠起来,其他的狗也会狂吠,“这对犯罪份子起到震慑作用。”我在她的木门板上画了一堵墙,她搬门的样子看起来很累。
The door of He Simei’s house has no wood joints and is very heavy. The doors of other people are for pushing, but the one of He Simei’s can only be moved. She opens and close the door by moving it. So everyday she takes hard time in moving this door. She doesn’t think that it’s unconvenient and unsafe. Sometimes when there are dogs barking, she feels afraid, but she has her own dogs who can protect her. In midnight if one dog barks, then all the other dogs in the village will begin barking. This may frighten the offenders.
I have painted a wall in her door. She seems very tired when she moves this door with wall painting.

C《一包橘子》
C. One package of oranges

从一个纳西族老头骑的28寸自行车上掉下来一包橘子,落在和四梅家附近的路上。我大声的叫他,他耳背,完全没有听见,那袋橘子撒了一地,我把它们捡回到袋子里,放到路边,估摸着他会回来找这袋橘子。和四梅家的公狗雄霸先跑了出来,闻了一会那个袋子,便走开了,接着是母狗花花,也同样的闻了下,并用嘴翻了翻袋子,看到两个小孩来了就走开了。两个小孩看着袋子问我橘子哪里来的?我说是一个骑车的老头落下的,一会估计会回来取。他们就也走开了,没一会他们和和四梅还有一位年轻且背着小孩的小妇女一起回来了,议论了一会,和四梅瞄了下我,便拿了那袋橘子去我看不见的墙角边,其他人也跟了去了,过了好一会,他们各自离开了,我问了两个从我身边经过的小孩,橘子好吃吗?他们其中的一个说:挺好吃的。另一个说:还好。
太阳下山之前,那老头没有回来过。
One day near He Simei’s house, I saw a package of oranges fell down from the bike ridden by a Naxi old man. I called that old man, but he didn’t hear me. So I picked the oranges and put them at the roadside waiting him to come back. Then Xiongba came out to smell the oranges, then came Huahua, but they just smelled them. Then came two children and they asked me from where I got the oranges. I told them the story. So they walked away. A moment later, He Simei came back with a woman carrying a child on the back. He Simei glanced at me and took the oranges away to a corner where I couldn’t see them. Them other children followed her there. Few minutes later, the children left, and I asked them if the oranges tasted good. One of them said very good. Another one said OK.
Before the went down, the old man had never came back.

松树 /内壁画装置

纳西人喜欢松树有多方面的原因,其一是他们生活在松树林里,树房子的木料就用松木,烧饭取暖用松毛。在文化和历史上的纳西人就已经把汉文化里对松的好恶书写到自己的血液里,在近千年的历史当里,对松树在图示形式感上已经习以为常的喜欢。和红专大约也是看到别人家的松树壁画有些羡慕,反复跟我说了很多次一定要画松树,他说:只要我画松树,其他的他就不管啰。
Naxi people like pine tree not because that they live in pine forest, and use pine wood for building and use pine needles for firing, but also because that they have been affected by the Han’s Culture about the pine trees. During the more than thousand years’ history, people usted to see the pine tree’s symbol and they liked it. Maybe He Hongzhuan feels jealous of the pine tree paintings of others’ house, so he told me several times to paint pine trees. He said he just wanted me to paint pine trees and he didn’t care about others.

像大多数纳西农村人家一样,和四梅家的院子里自己也栽了棵松树,只是在我们看起来这棵松树是趴下的,毫无形式美感,花坛也是用空心砖简单的堆砌了一下。对于纠正这棵树的形式感是我自始至终都有的冲动,我一直在想,为什么要纠正这棵松树呢?这棵松树的纠正就真有那么重要吗?为什么我的感性直觉让我会有这样的纠正需求?
Like most of the Naxi people, in the yard of He Simei they also have a pine tree, although it seems leant to the ground, and has no aesthetic feeling. They made a border just with some simple bricks. I had long desired to correct the pine tree. I was thinking that why I should correct this pine tree. Is this so that important? Why my perceptual intuition makes me have this kind of need?

在到达拉市海的第三个月开始,我还是按照别的农家院子里松树的样式,用极细的铅丝纠正了它。和四梅对我的这个做法非常的不能理解,我问她,你觉得弄好了的松树好看吗?她说不好看。还问我这样的话松树会不会死掉,我说不会的。她还是希望将松树原本趴下的树尖指向门口比较好。我问她,你们家的门口在哪里?她看了看只有半个围墙的院子说不知道。
From the beginning of the third month after I got La Shihai, I used thin iron wires to right the pine tree according to the forms of pine trees of others’. He Simei couldn’t understand why I had done that. I asked her:”Do you like the new pine tree?”. She said NO. And she asked me if this tree would die. I said no. She still wants that this tree could be in the old way with the treetop pointing to her home gate. I asked her:”Where is your home gate?” She looked her yard with only half enclosure and said:”I don’t know.”

就这个说法,我询问了其他的农户有没有什么禁忌或者神鬼方面的说法,其他农户说我这样做挺好,在禁忌和鬼神上都没有什么说法。纳西族的传统原始宗教东巴教是崇尚自然的,我在离开那边农村之后想道,或许还是不要纠正的好,因为那是自然,但是我还是不知道和红专为什么找了这样一棵趴在地上的松树埋在自己的院子里,可能只是由于这棵松树蜿蜒曲折,但是完全不知道用什么方法可以弄得像其他农户院子里的松树一样好看,他可能认为让其自己生长就可以像其他松树一样的好看。我们在改造自然吗?我想我们从自然里得到的大多数好处都是因为理性的改造了它。时间线是无情的,不改造,我们就会活在残酷但很自然的自然面前,死亡是自然的工具。
I have asked other farmers in the village if they had any taboo about what He Simei told me. The said they didn’t have this kind of taboo, and they totally agree about what I had done. The original religion of the Naxi, Dongba religion, advocates the Nature. After I left the village, I was thinking that maybe I shouldn’t have corrected that pine tree, because the declining tree may be the natural form. But I still don’t understand why He Hongzhuan put a declining pine tree in his yard. Probably he just didn’t know how to make it as beautiful as others’, or maybe he thought that the tree itself could grow up like others’ by itself naturally. Are we remaking the nature? I think what we get from the nature now are all due to our rational remaking of the nature. If we didn’t do this, we would live in a natural but cruel nature, and the death is the instrument of the nature.

和四梅家的院子围墙只有一半,并没有将自家的房子包裹住,在松树花坛沿着围墙不多远的地方是一个水泥柱做的电线杆,我在发现趴着的松树和花坛的时候就特别注意到它,在直觉上我觉得这根电线杆和这个松树花坛存在着什么联系,虽然水泥电线杆很普通极其普遍。
The yard of He Simeis’ is only half-fenced. Near the fence, not very far from the pine tree border, there is a wire pole made of cement. When I first found the declining pine tree, I noticed that wire pole. My instinct tells me that there are some relationship between this wire pole and the pine tree border, although the cement wire pole is a very common thing.

我在人为纠正趴着的这棵松树的形式感之后,开始在和四梅闺房门外的内墙壁上着手更加美化甚至神话这棵松树,在这里看来它是一颗凌驾在山峰上的一棵松树,按照中国传统审美观念,它那在悬崖绝壁上,面临极端气候的优雅姿态,是一种坚忍不拔的高风亮节,这是从伦理学中抽取出来的美学态度。
When I was righting the pine tree, I began to paint another pine tree in the inner wall of He Simei’s house. I have painted a pine tree at the top of a mountain. It’s just like a pine tree in the mythology. According to the Chinese traditional aesthetic standards, a pine tree in such cliff facing such extreme climate, is such a fortitudinous spirit. This is a aesthetic attitude got from the ethics.

它是否认识到它自己的气节呢?我想它就只是一棵趴着的松树。我在这棵趴着的松树后面的土围墙上为其制造了一面带有群山的背景,让这棵松树更有根据的塑造着一切,同时给水泥电线杆也制造了一面银色的背景。
Does it realize its integrity? I think it is just a declining pine tree. I have painted something like mountains in the wall behind the tree which can make it grow more validly. And it also gives the wire pole a silver background.

在内墙壁上,我把前面所用到的背景知识集结为一个光彩斑斓的物体,划过这棵美化了形式感的松树,虽然画面不太协调,但很绚烂。即使和四梅家所有人都不喜欢内墙壁上的画面,也可以在自己的想象里面抽离掉那个彩色的物体,或者可以那这些颜色来比对这棵松树。
In the inner wall, I have painted a colorful object concentrated with all the background knowledge that I have mentioned above next to the pine tree. Although the picture is a little bit inconsistent, but it’s colorful. Nobody of He Simei’s family likes this picture. They can take out that colorful object in their imagination, or they can compare that colorful object with this pine tree.

壁画做到一半的时候,我开始觉得和四梅家真正需要的是堵白墙。
When the mural was half done, I began to realize that what He Simei’s family really needed was a white wall.
当和四梅知道我要在外墙上画飞机的时候,她非常的反对,告诉我,如果画了飞机,其他人家会笑话她们家的。在得到他父亲的允许后,我开始着手绘制,在绘制的过程里,她会站在众人面前,命令我不要再画飞机了,她的朋友也是如此帮她说我,有一个叫了我的全名数落我。我没有听她的,一直做到最后结束。那个用我全名数落过我的人有次路过和四梅家,见到我,同样用我的全名表扬了我,说画的真好,她是那个村唯一叫我全名的人。和四梅后来也没有说什么,只是在我离开那里之前,用她从山寨食品里赠送的玩具耳环、口红和眉笔,在自己脸上画了一个让人敬畏的脸,她在模仿女人的样子。
When He Simei heard that I would paint an aircraft in her wall, she strongly opposed it, and told me that if I drew an airplane, the others would laugh at her family. After getting the permission of her father, I started painting the plane. During my painting process, she always ordered me not to paint that in front of many people. Her friends also helped her to tell me not do that. One of her friend even called my complete name and reproved me. But I didn’t hear them. After finishing this picture, that one, who reproved me calling my full name once passed by the He Simei’s house, praised me also calling my full name, saying that it was such a great picture. She was the only one who called my full name in the village. He Simei didn’t say anything then. When I was going to leave there, she used the toy rings, lipsticks and eyebrow pencil that she got from the low-quality food to make up herself. She painted a awesome face. She was imitating woman.


在离开拉市海之前,我给了和四梅五十元钱,告诉她,如果她觉得有必要,可以用这些钱重新找人粉白自己家的墙。
Before I left La Shihai, I gave He Simei fifty yuan and told her that she could repaint the wall with white color if she thought it necessary.
